The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Katsina State has called for deeper collaboration with faith-based institutions to strengthen advocacy on road safety. The call was made by the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Maxwell K. Lede, during a courtesy visit to the Catholic Bishop of Katsina Diocese, Most Rev. Gerald Mamman Musa (PhD), on Thursday, 9th October, 2025.
During the meeting, Commander Lede emphasized the important role religious organizations play in shaping attitudes and influencing public behaviour toward safer roads. He noted that churches and mosques possess unique platforms for reaching thousands of citizens with safety messages that could help reduce road accidents.
“The Church has always been a strong partner in promoting public safety. Your messages from the pulpit can go a long way in shaping the right behaviour among drivers and commuters,” Lede said.
He lamented the rising cases of traffic crashes and fatalities across the country, describing road accidents as a major public health challenge. He called for collective action in line with the United Nations Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety, which seeks to cut traffic-related deaths and injuries by 50 percent before 2030.
The Sector Commander further urged the Diocese to promote a sense of responsibility among parishioners and support awareness initiatives that align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly Goal 11.2, which advocates safe, affordable, and sustainable transport systems.
Lede also introduced the FRSC Mobile App to the Bishop, explaining its key features and benefits for easier access to the Corps’ services and real-time updates.
In his response, Bishop Gerald Mamman Musa expressed appreciation for the FRSC’s outreach and commended the Commander for his dedication and professionalism. He described Lede as a “worthy ambassador” of both the FRSC and the Christian faith, urging him to continue treating his duties as a service to humanity and to God.
The Bishop also advised the Corps to intensify campaigns against night travels and overloading, while maintaining advisory roles to relevant government agencies on the state of roads in various areas.
The meeting concluded with both leaders pledging stronger collaboration between the FRSC and the Catholic Diocese in promoting road safety awareness across Katsina State. The visit ended with a special prayer and blessing offered by Bishop Musa for the FRSC Commander and his team.
